With the 50th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select: Will Hernandez, Offensive Guard, UTEP

Will Hernandez of the University of Texas-El Paso is one of the best offensive linemen in this upcoming draft.  Many put him right behind Notre Dame’s Quenton Nelson. He has not faced a lot of NFL-level talent in Conference USA but he has still dominated both in run blocking and pass protection.

Hernandez was All-Conference USA in 2017.  During his tenure at UTEP, he led an offensive line that allowed an average of 1.47 sacks per game and was ranked first in least sacks allowed in Conference USA in 2014 and 2015 (both stats per UTEP Athletics).

Hernandez would come in right away and take over the left guard spot.  He could face issues in the beginning as he lacks size and arm length until he learns to adapt.  He should have no problem fitting in with one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

Hernandez would be in a great position to learn from All-Pros Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin.  Ezekiel Elliott would have no problem dominating like he did in 2016 with excellent play across the entire line.

Using a high pick on an offensive lineman would reaffirm the Cowboy’s commitment to the run game and keeping Dak upright.  Hernandez has all the tools to become a great offensive lineman.
