With the 137th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select: DaeSean Hamilton, Wide Receiver, Penn State

The phrase “Dak-Friendly” has been tossed around Cowboys Nation a lot lately.  Also, with the uncertainty surrounding Dez Bryant’s return combined with the overall struggles the Cowboys receiving core had in 2017, the Cowboys would be wise to spend a quality draft pick on a wide receiver.

DaeSean Hamilton has been a key contributor at Penn State for his entire career there. Hamilton would have plenty of chances to make a difference on the field as a member of the Cowboys.

Hamilton is technically a slot receiver but has the ability to play on the outside.  He has the ability to make contact catches and rack up the yards after the catch. He is a good target on third as “Almost 80 percent of his catches in 2017 went for first down” (NFL.com).

Hamilton does not put flashy numbers as hasn’t had a 1000 yard season or a double-digit touchdown season. However, he shined in the biggest game of his career with an 8 catch, 118-yard performance against Wisconsin in the 2016 Big Ten Championship Game.

With several members of the Cowboys receiving core likely departing in the next few years, the receivers could use a youth movement as the secondary has.  Hamilton could be the beginning and potentially develop into a new receiving threat.
