Round 6 – Jamil Demby – Offensive Tackle – Maine

Number 65 in the picture above Demby played left tackle from his freshman year through his senior year. One of the smartest guys on the team he fits the mode of Jason Garrett‘s right type of guy. Hard worker, smart, and well respected are three of the things you find out about Demby as you research him.

Demby has pretty good hand placement and power considering he came from a school not known for football. His first punch will surprise some defensive ends and he showed more than enough at the Senior Bowl that he can play against better opposition. He has some kinks in his game he will most certainly need to work on, but perhaps a move to guard would help some of the issues.

He will lunge forward at times and doesn’t bend well consistently. It seems with some coaching most of his flaws are fixable, and what he lacks in athletic prowess he more than makes up for in smarts. A year or two as a backup guard with the ability to step in as a tackle if needed, could keep Demby around to become a key part of the line, even if it is at swing guard or swing tackle.

Again, it seemed safety Trayvon Henderson was still out there as was running back Martez Carter, but the way the Cowboys have been building depth on the offensive line, I didn’t think Demby would make it to the seventh or free agency.
