Round 3 – Dallas Goedert – Tight End – South Dakota State

No, that is not Dallas in the picture above, but I was limited on what pictures to use. Goedert is not a name a lot of casual fans know, but to those who have been following the lead up to the draft know who he is. Widely considered one of the top five tight ends in this draft, Goedert should be available in the third round.

Goedert is one of those tight ends who can do a little bit of everything well. He makes very acrobatic catches, runs decent routes, blocks well, and has decent speed and power. He will not blow you away in any one area, but will be consistent in all of them. He might be the most complete tight end in the draft. Give him a year or two and he could be one of the better tight ends in the league.

The issue with Goedert is he played against lesser talent at South Dakota St. He had a good showing at the combine and at the Senior Bowl, so that should alleviate some of the questions about him. The Cowboys supposedly have met with him, which is usually a sign of at least being on their board as a target. Mike Gesicki the tight end and Michael Gallup were the next two names, but Gesicki doesn’t block as well as Goedert and I felt tight end was a slightly bigger need than wide receiver at this point.
