Dallas Cowboys: Seven round Mock Draft 3.0
Round 4 – Jalyn Holmes – Defensive End – Ohio State
At this point of the draft you want quality players who can start out playing a role or being part of a rotation. Enter Jalyn Holmes on the defensive line. He played as part of a very deep rotation at Ohio State and did well enough to get an invite to the Senior Bowl and performed well. His ceiling is high and would contribute in a rotational role right off the bat.
Holmes is not a pass rushing specialist, but has some tools that allow him to flash some ability. He has a pretty good spin move and has very surprising power when he gets a bull rush going. Where Holmes would fit well is his size allows him to play on obvious passing downs. Standing at 6’5” he is known to get his hand up quickly and in passing lanes. He bats down passes well and can easily get into the line of sight for a quarterback. Think a very raw David Irving.
Holmes could add some size and move inside, or work on his agility to really become a pass rusher on the outside. For now, he is a bit of a tweener. Since he was part of a rotation he still has a lot of football in him and with good coaching on technique could be a strong starter in a year or two.
The other names that popped up here were guard Sam Jones and wide receiver Marcell Ateman. I think with all the recent signings the Cowboys feel good at guard and wide receiver and could look to add to a pass rush.
