3. Opening Day 2010 – vs. Toronto Blue Jays (W 5-4)

Coming into 2010, the Texas Rangers were one of only three teams to have never reached a World Series. That all changed with an impressive run to the AL pennant in 2010.

To get there, the Rangers had to surpass every team in the AL, including the Toronto Blue Jays, who they were set to face on opening day.

Long-time Ranger Scott Feldman got the start on opening day and hoped to prove why he deserved the starting role.

Feldman got off to a shaky start, allowing a two-run home run from Vernon Wells in the first inning.

Adam Lind launched a homer of his own off Feldman in the third to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.

The Rangers, meanwhile, had no answers for Blue Jays pitching. Toronto’s Shaun Marcum took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Vladimir Guerrero hit a line drive single into left field. Nelson Cruz was next to the plate and came through with a three-run homer that tied the game at three.

Toronto quickly regained the lead when Vernon Wells scored an RBI single in the top of the eighth. The Rangers were unable to answer back in the bottom half of the inning and were in dire need of a run in the ninth.

Nelson Cruz once again had a big RBI chance after Michael Young and Vladimir Guerrero hit a double and a single, respectively. Cruz doubled to right-field and scored Young, tying the game.

Blue Jays pitcher Jason Frasor intentionally walked Chris Davis to bring Jarod Saltalamacchia to the plate.

With a 2-2 count, Saltalamacchia slammed the game-winning RBI  single into centerfield. The crowd of over 50,000 was in jubilation.

Texas would lose the series to the Blue Jays but would rebound and put on a stellar 90-72 season that saw them reach the World Series off their first AL pennant.
