Round 1, Pick 19: Rashaan Evans-Linebacker- (Alabama)

Ahhh so all the interest in Alabama’s pro day was really about a linebacker and not a certain Crimson Tide receiver. The Dallas Cowboys land easily the best pass rushing linebacker in the draft with the 19th overall pick. The front office stayed put and filled a critical need on defense.

The Cowboys got to see Evans twice, once at his pro day and another during a private workout. This move just makes the most sense as the team has lost Anthony Hitchens and Kyle Wilbur this offseason. That means Sean Lee, Jaylon Smith, and Damien Wilson will be the current starters, with almost zero depth.

Dallas will take multiple linebackers in this draft and Evans only gets the ball rolling. While he has struggled in pass coverage, he excels in stopping the run and rushing the passer two things the Cowboys have struggled with in recent years.

Sure there were concerns about him constantly getting a bit banged up especially in terms of soft tissue injuries but that is the case with every top linebacker in this draft class. If the rumors are true teams have already taken Roquan Smith off of their draft boards because of his injury issues.

Evans is likely the safest pick besides taking an offensive lineman at this spot especially with so many wide receivers sitting on draft boards with second-round grades. Speaking of wide receivers…
