Round 4, Pick 116: Josey Jewell-Linebacker- (Iowa)

Jewell has been selected by the Dallas Cowboys in all of my mock drafts, I am that certain that is how high the Cowboys are on him. He is one of the better cover linebackers in this draft and also is a quality player to replace either Kyle Wilber or Anthony Hitchens.

He came away with a ton of takeaways in college and is the top guy at his position in that regard. The main concern is his size and speed, his numbers do not jump off of the page.

There are plenty of prospects who tested faster and more athletic than Jewell, however, his instincts are incredibly good. He is the type of player I could see taking over for Sean Lee as age becomes more of a factor in his career.

While I believe he is better than a fourth-round pick, that is where I had him falling. Jewell and Evans would immediately give the Cowboys one of the best linebacking corps in the league (if everyone could stay healthy) as both players can play off each other’s weaknesses.

A solid comparison for him in terms of this year’s prospects would be a guy like Calvin Ridley. Sure, he may not have tested well at the combine but absolutely everything else about him screams at you he is a fantastic and highly productive playmaker.

At worst, he is a try-hard kid who can make an impact on special teams, at best he is the best cover linebacker in this draft, you do the math. The Cowboys finding him in the fourth round is a great value and should set them up pretty nicely at linebacker for the foreseeable future.
