Round 5, Pick 171: DeShon Elliott-Safety- (Texas)

Elliott is a big, physical, safety who loves to make contact. He led all safeties in the NCAA last season with six interceptions but has limitations in coverage. Now a lot of analysts will say those interceptions were easy ones to get, but let’s face it, no interception is easy.

This guy knows how to create turnovers and hits very hard. The Cowboys have gotten a solid look at him since he is a Texas prospect and seems to look like a more aggressive Barry Church. One of the bigger things about Elliott’s game is that he can easily be one of the best special teams players the Cowboys have.

Kick off and punt coverage are things that will likely be affected by Wilbers departure and Elliott could make up for some of that production. Is he a day one starter? No, however, he is an interesting prospect who will not only improve special teams but could help bring a more hard-hitting mentality to this young secondary.

Elliott will come in and become one of the strongest and most versatile members of the Cowboys secondary.
