Dallas Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft V4.1: Draft visits edition
By Carl Daley
Round 5, Pick 173: Tre’Quan Smith-Wide Receiver-(UCF)
I thought that maybe the Dallas Cowboys go linebacker here again but receiver is definitely the more pressing position. Dez Bryant should be with the team in 2018 but anything can happen in the NFL.
If the Cowboys do not reach a long-term team friendly deal with Bryant, then it is tough to see him in a Cowboys uniform beyond 2018. That coupled with the fact that Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley are in the last years of their deals means that the Cowboys will need to add a lot of talent to the position.
The newly signed Allen Hurns also only has a two-year deal so it is not yet a foregone conclusion that a full rebuild of the receiving corps is possible. Adding Smith would do a whole lot to ease fears that this offense will once again become stagnant.
Smith is a firecracker and should be selected a lot higher than this. The amount of depth in the middle rounds of the draft at wide receiver could see Smith slide to the fifth round allowing the Cowboys to take a player who could be immediately productive. Smith destroyed records at UCF and was an absolute monster.
Smith is not that big of a player but his uniquely long arms and smooth play style should translate well to the NFL. If the Cowboys are lucky enough to land Smith in the fifth he will almost be a lock to make this roster as he is just far too talented.
