Dez Bryant’s relationship with the Dallas Cowboys is officially past tense. The result of his release is added salary cap space and an undeniable need at receiver. The release may have caught some of us off guard but the Dallas Cowboys knew what they were doing the entire time.

That’s why they’ve dedicated so much time and energy in scouting the draft’s top receivers and that’s why they are quietly confident about the safety solution.

Seattle has placed Earl Thomas on the market because they know this will be his last season in the Pacific Northwest. They’d love to turn him into a draft pick or two. Dallas is in the market for a safety and with Kris Richard’s connection to the Seahawks and Thomas’ ties to Texas – the fit is a natural one.

The release of Bryant frees up money to afford a player like Thomas but it also places Dallas in the NFL’s bottom- 5 in receiver talent. The Cowboys have some clear needs at multiple spots so they’re going to have to get creative if they want to get it all done.

Once again, I used Fanspeak to run through various mock draft simulations. Based on scouting reports from Walter Football and NFL.com and film study from draftbreakdown.com, I made selections I think are feasible moves from the Dallas Cowboys.

Blazing the trail in all decision-making was the Cowboys list of 30-visitors, Dallas Day invitees, and those privately worked out.
