*TRADE* Round Three – Earl Thomas – Free Safety – Seattle Seahawks

I think the Cowboys do have real interest in Earl Thomas, but I am not sure they are going to be willing to give up a first or second for him. Thomas is 29 and coming off an injury, not to mention he wants to be the highest paid safety in the NFL.

While Thomas has been good, these are a few things that give pause to anything higher than a third round pick. It’s also very likely the Cowboys are the only team in discussions for Thomas – thus keeping compensation low.

After some tough negotiating, the Cowboys are able to pick up Thomas for their remaining third rounder and next year’s third as well. Thomas would add a veteran presence to a very young secondary, and should be good for at least two years as long as he stays healthy.

We do have to wonder how his injury is healing, but when healthy Thomas is an upgrade at free safety to anyone on the roster. Derwin James in the first was picked well before the Cowboys were on the clock, so this move makes sense.

If the Cowboys stay in the third round: Austin Corbett or Dashaun Hand could be grabbed.
