Kameron Kelly – S/CB – San Diego St

Dane Brugler had Kameron Kelly as one of his priority UDFAs. His versatility to play both safety and corner is probably why the Dallas Cowboys seemed to agree with this assessment. Kelly had played safety up until this last season then switched to corner back. Watching him, I think he might be a better safety than a corner, but his ability to play both should help him.

Kelly will need to add some weight no matter what position he plays, but as a former wide receiver in high school, he has a nose for the ball and makes plays at the highest point. As long as Kelly has some time to react, he looks better in coverage. As a corner he is a little grabby and doesn’t really stand out. He looks a lot better as a safety after watching him play both.

Best guess is the Cowboys will try him at safety with a few sub packages at corner as well. Where Kelly could find a huge role is as a gunner on special teams. He isn’t afraid to get his nose in for a tackle, but doesn’t really have the strength to finish a lot of plays on his own. I wouldn’t expect him to really be a consideration at corner, but he at least offers a little at that position.
