Dalton Sturm – QB – UTSA

I went looking for games that Sturm played in. I started watching and was thinking nothing really stands out about this guy. I paused the first game, and went to the second and thought the same thing. Then it hit me, Sturm is just methodical. When he has control of the offense, it looks like he has control of the defense too. So, I started watching more of Sturm, and it all came into focus about him.

Sturm is not a guy who will take a lot of chances, but he is also the guy who won’t make mistakes. If he makes one, he learns from it, moves on, and won’t make it again. He practiced jsut about every day to prepare for his pro day and word is, teams came away more impressed than they thought they would be. His demeanor and lack of acting like he was being watched by all 32 teams was surprising for most.

Sturm added a little bit of weight after the season in muscle and worked hard to impress scouts. This added muscle actually plays to one of the best parts of his game, as a running threat. In one game against UAB, Sturm ran for a 22 yard touchdown, breaking six tackles along the way.

He has a little bit of a long windup, but looks to have improved that a little from the end of the season as at his pro day it wasn’t as noticeable. Sturm could land on the practice squad and be the next guy Cowboy fans watch in preseason with surprise. He won’t be the guy to pass all over the field, but ask him to manage a game, and he will do that in spades.
