The Dallas Cowboys may be looking to bring back veteran defensive lineman Terrell McClain, for the right price. Let’s explore the possibilities.

The Dallas Cowboys could be looking for a reunion with their former interior defensive lineman, as Terrell McClain is set to visit Big D. The Cowboys need some interior line players with some experience and that seems to be one of the focal points of the offseason. Will the team bring back the veteran run stopper? Let’s take a look at some possibilities.

McClain last season was awful for the Washington Redskins. He recorded one fumble recovery and two sacks in 12 games as a starter. Washington poached him by offering him $21 million however they are likely regretting that gamble. So why should the Dallas Cowboys want McClain?

Well, he has shown success playing the one technique in Dallas’s defensive scheme, he also is familiar with the system which is a plus. The team simply needs more defenders with experience, with so many young faces it is hard to really find that do it all role player.

McClain was that guy for Dallas a few seasons ago, and it stands to reason he could be that player once again along the defensive line. The Cowboys truly believe that McClain could be a difference maker on defense in their system and he has the full confidence of head coach Jason Garrett, there is only one little knot to unravel, business.

The Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers are interested in him, however, he left Miami without a deal and meets with Dallas later this week. The Cowboys will likely be looking for a short-term team-friendly deal that can help bolster this defensive line. The team landed a defensive lineman in the draft but that has not alleviated the need for a player like McClain for the upcoming season.

More from Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys suddenly find themselves facing off against a talented bunch of running backs in the NFC East and getting a player like McClain who could rack up the tackles would make a huge difference. McClain is not the only veteran the Dallas Cowboys are looking at, the team will likely attempt to bring in a veteran safety if none of the younger players on the roster cements himself as a starter.

Xavier Woods should be penciled in as one of the players expected to start but his counterpart in the defensive backfield is currently unknown. If I had to guess the Cowboys are waiting on the Seattle Seahawks to come to their senses and make a deal.

The addition of Earl Thomas was the most speculated rumor during the 2018 offseason for the Dallas Cowboys and that saga is likely far from over.
