Dallas Cowboys: Zack Martin signed for six years
By Carl Daley
The Dallas Cowboys have had their fair share of crazy news stories this offseason, however, this one special. Zack Martin is a Cowboy for life.
The Dallas Cowboys have had plenty of stories throughout the offseason. Whether it be the departure of Dez Bryant, the retirement of Jason Witten, or the lack of a true number one wide receiver, news about the team has been a pretty hot commodity. Finally, for Cowboy fans, some good news as it appears Zack Martin is set to be a Cowboy for life.
The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly signed Martin for six years after coming to terms on a contract worth $84 million. He is now the top paid guard in the NFL dwarfing the contract Andrew Norwell signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the year.
Martin is definitely worth the cash as he has been one of if not the top rated guard for most of his tenure in Big D. Martin will receive around $40 million in guaranteed money and if you add the $9.341 million he was set to make during the 2018 season he could see $90 million plus over the next seven years.
Martin, Tyron Smith, and Travis Frederick will all remain Cowboys through 2023 as they have all finally been signed to long-term deals. The Pro Bowlers of the Cowboys offensive line will be pivotal figures in building this roster for years to come. This will also give Dak Prescott some great players blocking for him well into the future.

The Martin signing was expected however it took longer than most thought, most likely because of how much guaranteed money was involved. While we do not yet know just how much cap space the Dallas Cowboys will have in 2019 that number was expected to be huge.
It is unclear how this massive signing effects their cap moving forward but one has to assume it will be positive. With five spots along the offensive line, three of them will have Pro Bowl players starting for the foreseeable future, while there are two young players who could be next in line for big paydays.
If La’El Collins finally finds a home in this offensive line and continues to get better, at this rate he should see an extension well before the 2020 season. There is also the rookie Connor Williams who is being projected to be another elite guard or tackle. While he has not yet taken a snap in the NFL many believe him to be a natural fit with Martin, Smith, and Frederick.
He still has four years left on his deal but if he were to live up to the hype, he too could also become a long-tenured offensive lineman with this football club. The Dallas Cowboys can now turn their attention to getting DeMarcus Lawrence signed to a long-term deal, and potentially even laying the groundwork for Dak Prescott’s extension.
