Drafted player: Ty Dellandrea, C (13th Overall)

Weight: 184 lbs.

A centerman for the Flint Firebirds of the OHL, Ty Dellandrea was selected 13th overall by the hosting team, the Dallas Stars. Despite being projected to get drafted towards the end of the first round, the right-hander finished first among his team in goals last season, potting 27 in 67 games. He should provide some terrific offense for the Dallas Stars in the future.

In addition, he logged 32 assists, giving him a total of 59 points in the 2017-18 regular season. These numbers are a big increase from the year before, as Dellandrea doubled his goal, assist, and point numbers from the 2016-17 season, where he only totaled 24 points (13 G, 11 A).

Along with league play, the Toronto native played for Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Championship, scoring 2 goals and dishing out 3 assists to give him 5 points in 5 games. Dellandrea, who will turn 18 next month, is joining the Dallas Stars, an organization with a strong centerman core, including 5-time all-star Tyler Seguin, veterans Martin Hanzal and Jason Spezza, as well as young guys who are competing for roster spots.

For example, Tyler Pitlick, Devin Shore, and Radek Faksa. Dellandrea put up good numbers last season, even though the Firebirds finished second to last in the OHL with 45 points. Taking a centerman makes a ton of sense for the Dallas Stars as Spezza is in decline and will likely need his heir apparent sooner rather than later.
