The Colorado Avalanche selected right-winger Martin Kaut with the 16th pick of the draft. Kaut was ranked 4th overall among European-eligible skaters. He was second in the Czech Republic league with 16 points (9 G, 7 A) in 38 games with Pardubice. His linemate, Hurricane prospect Martin Necas, was the only player in the league ahead of him, scoring 24 points.

In international gameplay, Kaut recorded 7 points (2 G, 5 A) at the 2018 WJC Championships. Last season for Pardubice Jr., Kaut scored 4 goals and handed out 12 assists in 22 games. Kaut will join an offensive firepower in Colorado, becoming teammates with other right-wingers Sven Andrighetto, Mikko Rantanen, and Nail Yakupov.
