Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars lacked defensive success in the 2017-18 season and should look to some veteran d-men to help guide their young core. With John Klingberg, Stephen Johns, Esa Lindell, Julius Honka, Miro Heiskanen, Dillon Heatherington, and others, the blue line is very young and might need some veteran presence.

It seems that Dan Hamhuis and Greg Pateryn might be leaving the Big D, leaving Marc Methot as the only seasoned defender on the Stars’ roster. Also, considering the fact that Dallas is in contention to land superstar center John Tavares, the Stars most likely won’t overspend for a defenseman.

If Tavares doesn’t sign with the Dallas Stars, chances are they would more willing to shell out more money to other players. Potential candidates for the Stars defense might include:

Calvin de Haan, D

  • Team in 2017-18: New York Islanders
  • Points: 12 (1 G, 11 A)
  • Plus/Minus: +11
  • Cap hit last season: $3.3 million

John Moore, D

  • Team in 2017-18: New Jersey Devils
  • Points: 18 (7 G, 11 A)
  • Plus/Minus: -1
  • Cap hit last season: $1.66 million

Ian Cole, D

  • Team in 2017-18: Pittsburgh/Columbus
  • Points: 20 (5 G, 15 A)
  • Plus/Minus: +6
  • Cap hit last season: $2.1 million
