Mavs: A Review of the Southwest Division Teams’ Free Agency Moves
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies, who finished last in the Southwest division with just 22 wins, got little done compared to their division rivals.
Additions/Re-Signings:
- Kyle Anderson, SF
Memphis stole Kyle Anderson off the free agency list by signing him to a four-year, $37.2 million dollar deal.
Last season with San Antonio, Anderson posted an average of 7.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He also had a 52.7 field goal percentage and a 33.3 percent rating from beyond the three-point line.
Anderson, who is 24, spent his first four seasons in the NBA with the Spurs and will stay in the Southwest division.
- Omri Casspi, SF
Israeli-born small forward Omri Casspi inked a one-year, $2.1 million dollar contract with Memphis.
Last season with Golden State, Casspi averaged 5.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game.
In his career, he has played with the Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Golden State Warriors.
- Garrett Temple, SF
Memphis also traded for 32-year-old small forward Garrett Temple and sent Ben McLemore and Deyonta Davis to the Sacramento Kings.
While with Sacramento last season, Temple averaged 8.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He also shot 39.2 percent from downtown.
- Dakari Johnson, C
The Grizzlies sent forward Jarell Martin to the Orlando Magic in exchange for center Dakari Johnson.
Johnson averaged a mere 5.2 minutes per game with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season.
OKC then traded him to Orlando a little over a week ago, and then three days later he was sent to Memphis in the Southwest division.
Losses:
- PG Tyreke Evans – Indiana Pacers – One-year, $12 million
- PG Mario Chalmers – Free agent
