Dallas Cowboys: Review of first preseason performance
By Carl Daley
Anthony Brown’s struggles
Anthony Brown has been one of the most impressive cornerbacks throughout OTA’s and training camp, however, the roll that he was on ended against the San Fransisco 49ers. Brown was routinely out of position and ineffective in coverage.

He cannot locate the ball in the air and that leads to big first downs, touchdowns, or penalties. He had a pass interference call that was pretty egregious and truly showed the floor of his abilities. After that performance one has to believe that Jourdan Lewis, Chidobe Awuzie, and Byron Jones are pretty much locked into the three top spots at the position.
Awuzie and Lewis, in particular, look like emerging stars while Jones is closer to reaching his full potential than ever before. If Kris Richard can unlock Jones and really match his physical abilities with football IQ and instinct, Jones could be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Even backups like Duke Thomas showed more promise than Brown who should be considered the team’s fourth cornerback on the depth chart.
It should also be noted that the Dallas Cowboys do not have the strongest depth at safety currently and forcing more pressure on the team’s cornerbacks should be avoided especially if Brown is on the field.
