Preseason for many marks the beginning of football season and as Training Camps across the NFL get underway, it also marks the beginning of Fantasy Football season.

As Fantasy Football drafts approach, fans may think about picking up several Dallas Cowboys. There’s nothing wrong with that as long as we are smart about it.  Last season, many of us Cowboys fans bought into the hype that Dez Bryant would have a huge year after spending a full season with Dak Prescott.

As it turned out, that was not the case.  It should have taught fantasy owners a valuable lesson: if you want to win your league, you have to choose with your head and not with your heart. Loading up on players from our favorite team more than likely will not win the league.  With that being said, here is a look at some Cowboys players’ fantasy potential.

Dak Prescott – Cowboys QB

Dak Prescott like most quarterbacks will be a mid to late round pick.  He may not be as flashy a fantasy quarterback as Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady but Prescott has shown he can be QB1 in fantasy leagues especially since he can use legs.  That makes him good for touchdown-only leagues.

Prescott had 29 total touchdowns his rookie season and 28 his sophomore season. Prescott had the 11th most points among quarterbacks in 2017 based on an NFL.com Standard Scoring League.  He is projected 15th for 2018. He is not a quarterback that will be able to carry a fantasy team but he will give your teams good points each week.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Ezekiel Elliott – Cowboys RB

Ezekiel Elliott is the safest pick from the Cowboys and one of the safest picks in the draft.  Since he is the focal point of the Dallas offense, he is going to get at least 300 touches barring any unforeseen circumstances which means he will generate a ton of fantasy points.

NFL.com Fantasy projects Elliott to lead the league in rushing and be the 4th best running back in terms of fantasy scoring. If you can get your hands on Elliott, you will have a more than capable RB1 that can do some heavy lifting for your fantasy team.

Cowboys Wide Receivers

The Cowboys top two receivers from years past have moved on from the team.  Jason Witten will now be calling Monday Night Football with Joe Tessitore for ESPN.  Dez Bryant remains unsigned after Dallas cut him in April. This leaves Allen Hurns, Terrance Williams, and Cole Beasley as the Cowboys top Fantasy receiving options.

One of those three or even rookie Michael Gallup could emerge as a productive fantasy receiver. There’s hype surrounding Cole Beasley right now as Dak Prescott came out and said Beasley was his number one.  However, after the down year Beasley had last year, fantasy owners should remain cautious with him. As of now, if you choose to draft a Dallas receiver, he should be on your bench as depth.

Dan Bailey – Cowboys Kicker

When Dan Bailey is healthy he is one of the best Kickers in the league.  He consistently bounces back and forth with Justin Tucker for the title of most accurate kicker in NFL history.

His consistency and accuracy make him one of the better fantasy kickers as well. Last season was a down year for Bailey since he had to deal with injuries but still had a decent season overall.  With Dallas usually having a potent offense, Bailey gets plenty of field goal opportunities and extra point attempts.

Cowboys Defense

The Dallas defense has made significant improvements in recent years.  However, they haven’t been good enough to be drafted in fantasy leagues.  Unless you are taking a chance with them, that will not change this year.

In most leagues, they will be a waiver pickup at best.  Although, they make more a good streaming option. If Dallas plays a below average team or faces a backup quarterback, they would make for a good option that week.
