Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster projection 3.0: Would you rather…
By Reid Hanson
Tyron Smith/Zack Martin/Travis Frederick/Connor Williams/La’el Collins/Cam Fleming/Joe Looney/Kadeem Edwards/Player From Outside
Zack Martin expects to be back for Week One, and Tyron Smith is taking regular practice days off so he can maintain health and energy. Heck, he’s good enough he never has to practice again.
I always planned to go with just eight here but given the nature of Travis Fredericks health situation, that’s far too risky of a move.
Travis Frederick could go onto IR for half the season and allow the Dallas Cowboys to save a roster spot. But they’re hoping he can come back sooner rather than later and they’re willing to save him a roster spot and sit patiently.
Cam Fleming gets the job of swing tackle and Joe Looney starts the season as the center. Chaz Green begins his fallback career as the south entrance turnstile at TJ Maxx, Arlington (low hanging fruit, I know).
For as good as this starting unit is, the depth is concerning and viable candidates are about to be made available either by roster cuts or by trade. A player with some inside/outside versatility would be optimal but I believe the Dallas Cowboys will just try to find the best player possible to provide depth.
If anyone else on the roster is kept it would have to be Kadeem Edwards and it’s possible Edwards is kept for a day or two while the Cowboys scour the market for a better option. After Edwards is a pretty significant falloff so there isn’t much else to talk about regarding O-line depth.
In the end, smart money says an outside player comes in and becomes the OT4.
