Dallas Cowboys: Should the Cowboys trade for Le’Veon Bell?
By Carl Daley
The Dallas Cowboys need wide receiving help however they could look at a running back for help in that area. Le’Veon Bell should be on the Cowboys radar.
The Dallas Cowboys won a crucial game on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, however, some of their stars got a bit dinged up in the process. Ezekiel Elliott is currently dealing with knee and ankle injuries, and while they are thought not to be severe it does raise some questions about the depth the running back position.
The Cowboys are built around running the football effectively, and typically the offense functions better when they have a playmaker carrying the football. With that in mind wouldn’t it make sense to add another superstar to the Cowboys backfield?
In theory, yes it makes a ton of sense. We have seen what the New Orleans Saints can do with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara so we know have two star running backs can work. Granted Bell is a bit bigger of a star than Ingram (and will cost more) however a Le’Veon Bell and Elliott backfield could not be stopped.

For all the worry about Dak Prescott’s ability to get the ball down the field, adding Bell would somewhat put those issues to rest. You could run screens all game, or just hammer the rock, when one star back gets tired another goes in.
This will also benefit each runner as Bell is fairly injury prone and Elliott will continue to get dinged up if he is giving 30 carries a game. Both players splitting time evenly should benefit everyone involved. Now here is the rub, what do the Pittsburgh Steelers want for Bell? Well, apparently they would like a second round pick and a “good” player.
Now basically all that means is a player that can come in and play some snaps immediately. A second-round pick is a bit high for a player who has missed the first quarter of the season however it is still early enough to bring him in and get production. If trading Terrance Williams and a second round pick would land a pass catcher like Bell, why not make that trade?
Bell has proven he can be more effective through the air than Williams and this team could use a productive receiver (even if it is out of the backfield). If the Dallas Cowboys can make that deal then they have too as they are essentially giving up a second round pick for Bell which is a steal. Sure he will be a free agent at the end of the season, but he would greatly increase the Cowboys chances of winning games.
If the two sides are a fit, a short-term extension can be discussed but really it is a win/win for Dallas. This offense needs playmakers and Bell would be the perfect compliment to Elliott on so many levels.
Rod Smith is a great backup but splitting carries with Elliott seems less ideal than if Bell did it. Adding Bell would make the Cowboys instant playoff contenders and should give this offense the extra juice needed to control the clock and dominate games.
All it takes is a phone call from Jerry Jones and Bell could have a star on the side of his helmet.
