The Dallas Mavericks will be in the market to make some big moves this offseason. Adding a disgruntled star like Draymond Green would fit into their scheme.

The Dallas Mavericks could become the beneficiaries of what could only be described as some in-house turmoil in Golden State. The Warriors have two of their biggest stars Kevin Durant and Draymond Green feuding on and off the court which does not make for the best situation. Is it possible that Green could be on his way out in Golden State?

The simple answer is, yes. The Golden State Warriors have had a boatload of success but that also has come with acquiring some pretty big egos. Just this offseason the Warriors signed DeMarcus Cousins which basically just added to the ridiculous pile of riches the Warriors already are sitting on.

Kevin Durant is seemingly the NBA’s top bad boy at the moment with people still being sour on the idea of Durant forming this unstoppable super team. For the first few seasons things have gone according to plan, however, the 2019 offseason/the 2018 trade deadline prior to the deadline may be the most active time in recent NBA history.

More from Dallas Mavericks

One of the top suitors heading into free agency this season is none other than our Dallas Mavericks. They used to be a gaggle of misfits and a hall of fame player. Now they are looking like an entirely different team as the youth movement fully kicks in.

To put it bluntly, the Mavericks are looking for some star players to really bolster this roster and they could acquire some of the top players in the NBA come 2019. The common thought has been the Mavericks pursue one of the top free agents on the market but why not make an aggressive trade to help this team right now?

The common thought has always been eventually Durant will force Draymond Green out off of the Warriors. Not because of his attitude or anything silly like that but why would the Warriors pay both players when they both play the same two positions, small and power forward?

Durant was if anything an upgrade to Green and KD is infinitely more versatile than Green will ever be. Green, however, is a better defender because that is what his game is about. He can annoy and pester opposing players into submission and is fairing better than KD on the glass even with Durant getting way more playing time.

If the Dallas Mavericks were to trade for anyone “affordable” Green would be the top option. Harrison Barnes/Wesley Matthews has been rumored to be on the trade block for the last two seasons and with the Mavericks likely to do everything they can to keep DeAndre Jordan, paying both Barnes and Matthews would be a headache and an inefficient use of the salary cap.

Dennis Smith Jr, Luka Doncic, and Jordan all make up an exciting nucleus of players that could be incredibly productive in the future. Adding Green and defensive minded, hard-nosed, bruiser would give the Dallas Mavericks a bit of an edge and dare I say it, a bit more heart.

Green wants to be appreciated and that will be a guarantee in Dallas. The Dallas Mavericks are currently second in the southwest division and with a recent victory over the Houston Rockets, why not make a move to make this team even better going forward?

The Dallas Mavericks should be incredibly aggressive as they attempt to land some star players to put around a talented crop of rookies, adding Green not only fits that idea but would be one of the factors needed to make Dallas a true contender for the West.
