The Stars have made a few roster moves in the past couple days, as Gemel Smith was claimed off waivers by the Boston Bruins and Roope Hintz was sent to the AHL.

Gemel Smith became the newest member of the Boston Bruins early Thursday morning after he was placed on waivers by the Dallas Stars on Wednesday. The Stars had free up a roster spot with the return of center Martin Hanzal, who was cleared to play earlier this week after missing the beginning of the season due to back surgery earlier in the year.

Smith recorded three points (2 G, 1 A) in 14 games with the Stars this year and averaged just over eight minutes of ice time per game.

In his career, he has amassed 20 points (11 G, 9 A) in 77 NHL games.

Smith, who can play center or on the wing, will join a strong core of centers in Boston with Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Danton Heinen, and others.

The Toronto native was able to say goodbye to his teammates before departing for Boston:

Smith is the second player to be claimed from the Dallas Stars this season. The first was Remi Elie, who was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres in early October. Elie has spent most of the season as a healthy scratch for the Sabres and has scored only one assist in eight games.

In addition to Smith being claimed by the Bruins, Stars forward Roope Hintz was sent down to the Texas Stars of the AHL on Thursday. Hintz, who started the season in Dallas, played in 14 games, recording three points (2 G, 1 A) and ten penalty minutes.

Stars’ next games update:
