Round 2 – Irv Smith Jr. – Tight End – Alabama

A lot of rumor is that Smith is coming out for the draft. Let’s assume the rumors are correct and he does come out. There is a good chance he could be a first round tight end, but for now he falls between the first and third. So, the Dallas Cowboys grab Smith as soon as he is there in the second round.

Unless the Cowboys decide to get a tight end in free agency, and it looks like Jared Cook, and then the next best is Tyler Eifert. Not the strongest class in free agency one could dream up, so I’m going to assume the Cowboys go with safety and maybe an offensive lineman in free agency and turn to what looks like a great draft for tight end.

Smith has been a nightmare in college for defenses. However, it isn’t just Smith is an offensive weapon, but he is a very willing blocker and will play on special teams as well. Even if Blake Jarwin ends up being really good, adding Smith would not hurt at all. The Cowboys could go offensive line if Michael Jordan out of Ohio State is available, safety, or even corner back here. But in the end Smith was too good to pass up.
