Round 5 – Ricky Walker – Defensive Tackle – Virginia Tech

It’s no secret the Dallas Cowboys do no like big defensive tackle types, so instead of fighting the system, I am going with it. Ricky Walker is not the biggest defensive tackle by any stretch and will probably get dinged for it in the draft. He is rather productive and uses his agility well against the run and pass.

That being said, Walker will need to work on not getting washed out by the size of NFL linemen. Without Tim Settle on the line, Walker had a productive but not stellar season with 10.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He is the “right type of guy”, and did have some injuries he dealt with and a ton of double teams. He was the co-captain of the team, perhaps their hardest worker, and helped set the tone for the entire team.

Walker will have some rehab for a hamstring issue ahead of him, so while he could move up a little in the draft, round 4 or 5 is about right for him. His agility and speed will help right away as part of the rotation, but will need to work on hand usage and disengaging to be an every down type of guy.
