Phoenix Suns

It’s no secret the Suns are in need of a point guard. Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton are set in stone at SG and C, TJ Warren continues to hold the SF position for now and Mikal Bridges has found some opportunity as a stretch 4. This is a talented team that could use Smith’s services.

The trade package from Phoenix would most likely contain last year’s lottery pick, Josh Jackson. He’s certainly had an underwhelming start to his career and with TJ Warren and Mikal Bridges logging valuable minutes at the SF and PF position, it might be time for a change of scenery.

Unfortunately, Josh Jackson would probably hurt the Mavs more than Dennis Smith Jr currently does. According to ESPN, Josh Jackson has a significantly worse shooting percentages than Smith at 40.5% from the field and 28.5% from 3. In order to make this trade worth it for the Mavs, the Suns would have to include a high draft pick, which the Suns probably wouldn’t be willing to exchange.

Unless Bridges is an option, sending Dennis to Phoenix feels awfully one-sided, and not to the in need of some offense. It’s also possible the Suns aren’t yet interested in winning. Another trip to the lottery may be their primary intention this season so they may not want to do anything until this summer.
