Round 3, Pick 90

TE Jace Sternberger

6’4” 250lbs

Jace Sternberger is a receiving weapon built to alleviate the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive woes.  Last season Dallas struggled in the redzone and in the intermediate-to-deep middle. Jace Sternberger thrives in both areas. In fact, his work in the middle on seam routes set him apart from many of his highly talented colleagues in this draft.

Jace broke Texas A&M’s single season TE touchdown record with 10 trips to the end zone last season. He did so with both big plays downfield and savvy plays in tight spaces.

Sternberger’s frame can support extra mass and he’ll need that mass if he wants to fit in the Dallas Cowboys’ system that requires their tight ends to block. Even with blocking as a weakness, Sternberger’s play-making ability and pillow-soft hands are special and too good to pass up late in the third round.

With TE one of the stronger positions in the draft, legitimate TE1s can be found on Day 2 and even Day 3. Jace is someone with high potential that can work behind Dalton Schultz and Blake Jarwin for a season, and challenge for the top spot in 2020.

The climate of the draft: Many of my top DTs were off the board early but some value can be found later so I’m not going to reach right now. Offensive linemen have also gone off the board quickly but I’m eyeing a couple project pieces later in the draft.
