Round 4, Pick 136

OT Mitch Hyatt

6’5” 310lbs

Here’s the developmental offensive tackle the Dallas Cowboys so desperately need. With La’el Collins only signed for one more season, the Cowboys will soon find themselves in the market for a starting right tackle. Mitch Hyatt could eventually be that guy.

The former 5-star recruit started four seasons for the Clemson Tigers at left tackle, facing off against some of the best pass rushers in the country. He didn’t dominate (hence his availability at this point in the draft) but he consistently held his own.

Hyatt shows good fundamentals, quick feet, and above average athleticism. He’s at his best vs bull rushers and struggled the most with speed. Yet his fundamentals are sound.

Hyatt is a fairly safe pick given his polish and experience but he lacks some of the upside of other less-refined prospects. But it’s worth noting, he’s only 21-years-old and still has a few years to approach his athletic prime as an offensive lineman.

More strength could do him well and playing swing tackle in 2019 would give him the time needed to develop as a professional. The Dallas Cowboys need to address the future at tackle now, because if Collins leaves next winter (which I think will happen), the team has nothing in the pipeline.
