The Mavs need to Re-Sign Porzingis

It wasn’t too long ago that the Kings traded DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi for Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway, Tyreke Evans and a first and second round pick. New Orleans almost instantly won that trade. The Pelicans had the best PF and C in the game while Buddy Hield was still trying to figure out how to shoot a basketball from deep. Within two years, the fortunes changed for both teams.

The Pelicans didn’t re-sign Cousins because of the torn Achilles he suffered in the regular season. While most athletes don’t return to athletic performance, Cousins was invaluable to the franchise because the was not only a solid scorer, but he is an impressive play maker for someone his size.

The Mavs MUST sign Porzingis long term even after the serious ACL injury he is currently recovering from. They can not undersell Porzingis as a player and low ball him because there will be many teams running to him asking for his services. Porzingis is a game changing European big man. Sounds awfully familiar doesn’t it?

Hardaway is locked into two years and a player option. He’s young and is serviceable but will probably never develop into someone like Klay Thompson. Trey Burke will also provide solid scoring as a backup option. However, what Porzingis provides on both ends of the floor is something not many centers can match and letting Porzingis walk would be mind scratching at the least.
