The big news for the Dallas Cowboys is Jerry Jones will not extend Jason Garrett’s contract, so if he isn’t going to extend Jason’s contract, why wait?

The Dallas Cowboys are always in the news for one reason or another. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones is the hype-machine personified when it comes to keeping the Cowboys in the news and relevant.

Heck, I truly believe ole Jerry likes the attention more than ending the 20 plus years drought of not winning a Super Bowl. But that’s neither here nor there.

I’m here to talk about something else, something that made Cowboys Nation celebrate as if they had won that coveted Lombardi Trophy.

Not too long ago, Jerry announced that he will not extend head coach Jason Garrett‘s contract. The amazing part is that Garrett is in the final year of his contract. That’s why Cowboys Nation is so happy. And it gets better. Here is what Jerry said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

"“None of that is anything that I would talk about in this forum in any way and so we won’t get there,” Jones said on the station. “I think I’ve made clear how I feel about Jason in terms of where he is right now as far as our ability to help us win football games. I think if you look at what we’ve done over the last few years you’ll see a pretty good winning record there. But it’s not enough, not enough.”"

Well, Jerry if a pretty good winning record isn’t enough, then why wait for the inevitable? My question is why wait on firing Garrett when Jerry should do it now?

Jerry should have l a 4pm central time press conference at the Star in Frisco, Texas and fire ole Mr. Clapper. The man who claps louder than the thunder in a mid-afternoon Texas rain storm.

Now I know most Cowboys fans want Garrett fired like yesterday, and I understand why, but I’m not calling for Jerry to fire him (that should have happened years ago).

But all I’m saying is why wait to fire him when we all know that anything short of an NFC Championship or a Super Bowl appearance Garrett will be fired faster than a contestant on the “Appearance”.

I’m still scratching my bald head trying to figure out why Jerry is waiting to fire Garrett. Maybe its money. Maybe Jerry is hoping Garrett will take Dallas to the Super Bowl or win enough games next season that he can trade Garrett for New Orleans head coach Sean Payton.

The rumor is that Payton will come back and coach Dallas. Besides Payton owning a house in the Dallas area, he was an offensive coach under Bill Parcells with Dallas from 2003-05, and the primary reason Tony Romo signed with Dallas as a free agent quarterback in 2003.

In reality, this scenario could happen because Drew Brees is almost 40 years of age with a contract that expires after the 2019 season. This might be the only plausible reason why Jerry is allowing Garrett to coach like a lone wolf in the final year of his contract.

Plus, Dallas has one of the youngest (if not the youngest) and most talented rosters in the league, a top-5 defense, the leading rusher in Ezekiel Elliott, and an up and coming signal caller named Dak Prescott that is hungry for an offensive guru like Payton to make him better.

If Jerry wants Payton as his head coach, why not make a splash right now and trade for the Super Bowl winning coach and give the Saints a few draft picks for their misery (because they’re going to be miserable without Payton).

Why wait? This is the NFL and other teams want to win right NOW and its possible they might reach out to Payton and offer him total control of the team, drafting players, and any other luxuries that benefits him.

Another reason why Jerry should fire Garrett now is because Garrett can never reach his full potential as a head coach under egotistical Jerry. Garrett is nothing more than a puppet/yes man that caters to Jerry’s ego and never challenges Jerry and won’t challenge him as the head coach.

Also, Garrett is not going to do anything different with coaching that he hasn’t done since he became the head coach midway through the 2010 season. To Garrett’s credit, he has won the NFC East crown three times in the last five seasons and won two playoff games.

If not for a Tony Romo injury in 2015 and Zeke’s six game suspension in 2017, maybe Garrett leads Dallas to five straight playoff appearances. Because when Dallas has available talent, Mr. Clapper has proven he can win at least 10-13 games and a divisional title (not advancing past the second round his is main issue).

Since Garrett could not advance this talented Dallas team past the second round again, Jerry has lost patience with Mr. Clapper and is not offering him an extension.

Once again, ole Jerry has offered Cowboys Nation an olive branch as a gesture that he really cares and wants to deliver us that precious Lombardi Trophy.

If that’s the case Jerry, then fire Mr. Clapper now and go get Payton. And lets start this Super Bowl journey right now.

Because why wait?
