Daylon Mack, Texas A&M, Texas A&M

No prospect had a better January than Daylon Mack. The former Aggie showcased the improvements he made in his senior year under Mike Elko and they certainly didn’t go unnoticed. In practices during the Shrine Game and Senior Bowl, he was disruptive and showed unique burst for an under tackle.

If Mack were to test well at the combine and pro day, the odds of the Dallas Cowboys selecting him in the 3rd would be unlikely. However, for now let us assume the Cowboys have the ability to find a legitimate talent in a position the Cowboys need some stability.

Maliek Collins, while good, constantly finds himself on the injury report. The Cowboys aren’t currently locked into a contract with Caraun Reid who was the other under tackle the Cowboys had. Even if the Cowboys re-sign Reid, who had a good end to the season, the Cowboys are in need of a consistent threat at the 3 technique spot. Mack would provide such.

Generally, the expectation for defensive linemen is that they are acclimated to play by their third year in the league so it might take any DT, including Mack, some time to be an instant contributor. However, the upside Mack provides might be hard for the Cowboys to avoid, for that reason if available in the third round, the Cowboys should pounce on the Aggie.
