Draft Profile

Key player off the board: David Edwards

The Dallas Cowboys need an offensive tackle to groom and Bobby Evans is good prospect to invest in. At 6’5” 299, Evans isn’t quite as heavy as you’d like in a starting tackle but his frame indicates he can add mass. Working behind Tyron Smith and La’el Collins in 2019 will afford him that chance.

Evans has all the physical traits you look for in a left tackle. He’s athletic, quick, long-armed (but we’ll verify that at the combine) and well-seasoned. As Kyle Crabbs points out at the draft network, he also checks the IQ box since he’s proficient in handling stunts, twists, transitions and combo blocks.

Even if Dallas bring Cam Fleming back they need to add a developmental prospect capable of one day playing a starting tackle role.

Evans is also a beast on the move and can be scary in space or blocking at the next level. Evans is going to need to work on hand technique and consistency but he looks like he has a LT1 ceiling with a swing tackle floor.

The Dallas Cowboys only have La’el Collins locked in for one more season and will probably be looking to replace him with a younger and cheaper option. While I like Evans more at LT, he’s too good of a prospect to pass on here because the Cowboys have an immediate need at swing tackle and Tyron Smith is known to miss games throughout the season.

Even if Dallas bring Cam Fleming back they need to add a developmental prospect capable of one day playing a starting tackle role.
