The Dallas Cowboys should be making moves to be all-in for 2019, because money and time are not entirely on their side.

There is a lot of talk surrounding the upcoming extensions the Dallas Cowboys will have to decide on. Most people seem to be on board for Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and DeMarcus Lawrence extensions. Also to be considered are the Jaylon Smith, Byron Jones, and Amari Cooper extensions which are on the horizon as well.

With all these extensions still in “pending” status, the Dallas Cowboys are still playing with house money. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are both still on rookie contracts and they technically have one more year of Dak and two of Elliott. Regardless of what you feel about Dak, odds are he will get a huge extension.

The Cowboys have cap space, but shortly it will be eaten up by extensions and signings. That means if the Cowboys are smart, they will look to make a play this offseason to gather as much talent as they can for a Super Bowl push.

I’m not saying to sign all sorts of players and spend, spend, spend. But they need to improve in certain areas, even if it means one year deals, or incentive laden deals. Gather the talent for a push, spend while you can, and keep cap space to sign those players coming up on extensions.

We all believe there will be some moves, many have hopes of a safety. With several needs on this team and no first round pick, they have to make a few moves in free agency. Defensive line and probably wide receiver depth, are some possible moves this offseason before the draft. It is doubtful they will get much in this draft to make a push to the Super Bowl before the contract extensions are due.

But this is just the start of the reasons for going all out this offseason. Jerry Jones has made it clear for years that he wants Jason Garrett to be his Tom Landry. However, instead of getting the extension this offseason like Jones had alluded to, Jason is playing for his coaching career in Dallas.

The promotion of Kellen Moore to offensive coordinator is only showing that this season is all about Garrett and his career. Everything falls on Garrett’s success for himself. If I am Garrett I am looking for any and all moves to save my career. A revamped offense, a strong defense, and some free agents to fill holes, and Garrett will have what he really needs to make a strong push for the NFC Championship and Super Bowl. Perhaps, the only things that will save Garrett in Dallas.

This is the year the Cowboys should go all-in for the Super Bowl. Strike while you have the money to spend, players playing on the cheap, and a desperate head coach. If there was every a time for something to be done in the offseason by the Jones family this would be it. The time is now, and it is time to go all-in for 2019.
