MILWAUKEE, WI – OCTOBER 22: Mario Hezonja #8 of the New York Knicks is (Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images) /

Mario Hezonja, New York Knicks, SG/SF

Here is a player that has massively failed expectations since his arrival to the league. The Orlando Magic selected him 5th overall in the 2015 draft and he hasn’t played well. So you’re probably wondering why I’d like the Mavs to sign him during Free Agency.

At his best, Hezonja is a solid wing who can stretch the floor. The Mavs shifted their offense such that they shoot 3-pointers a lot. While it is unreasonable to expect Hezonja to play better than he has previously, maybe the way the Mavs play offense can help his scoring output. Carlisle has worked his magic on players who looked like they weren’t doing anything noteworthy.

Realistically, the Mavs wouldn’t have to pay much for the services of Hezonja. If they can grab him for one season and try to develop his game in his time here, we could see a better version of Hezonja. Of course the question would remain, how much better will Hezonja get?

According to ESPN, Hezonja hasn’t shot better than 34.9% from 3 and that was in his rookie season. Currently he is shooting 27.7%. If the Mavs could get him to produce close to his rookie year numbers in terms of shooting percentages, the Mavs would have reaped a reward for signing Hezonja.

This move is very much a low risk/ low reward type of move but what if Carlisle could work some magic on the 23 year old Croatian?
