Dallas Mavericks: Who Should the Mavs Chase in Free Agency
Ivica Zubac, Los Angeles Clippers, C
I’m sure you’ve noticed a certain trend with the players I’ve picked. The theme is nothing more than a coincidence when I was looking for the most attractive players for the Mavericks.
Here is a move that would make Mavs fans happy. Zubac is a young center and quite frankly, didn’t play enough with the Lakers to test what his potential was in the league. However, in three games with the Clippers, Zubac is putting up more points and rebounds while maintaining the same efficiency.

According to ESPN, Zubac has averaged 10.3 PPG and 5.3 RPG on 52.6% shooting. Might I also add he is playing 20 minutes per game. Dallas could use a player like Zubac, he gets points in the post while also grabbing defensive rebounds. Paired along with Porzingis, the Mavs could cement their rim protection and rebounding with the starting unit.
It’s important to understand that Zubac is capable of playing starting minutes for any team.
While he doesn’t space the floor, he does provide legitimate post presence much like DeAndre Jordan did for the Mavs. Regardless of whether you liked Jordan’s tenacity, his ability to rebound the ball and kind of block shots helped the Mavs on defense. Zubac would mimic Jordan’s production and he could come at a fraction of the cost.
Of course this whole plan wouldn’t even exist if the Clippers do chose to re-sign the Croatian, but that could happen to any of these players on the list. What we do know is that this free agency is going to be busy, so let’s hope the Mavs can sign someone who can play meaningful minutes and help them chase title number two.
