Round 3 – Terry McLaurin – Wide Receiver – Ohio State

We could have gone a few directions here, but with the possible loss of Cole Bealsey, the departure of Terrance Williams, and the unknown of almost everyone behind Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup, the Cowboys should be in the market for a wide receiver who can also be a kick returner. McLaurin can play multiple positions at wide receiver and is a weapon day one.

McLaurin has the speed and agility to be a home run threat when he touches the ball. He played the number two receiver or “Y” at Ohio State, but I think he could do more as a slot receiver in some ways. He has great footwork in his routes and can create separation. His footwork off the line is a little inconsistent, but looks fixable. He will make people miss and make them pay with blazing speed. He will instantly help in the return game as well.

Where McLaurin will need work is sometimes he will body catch and won’t high point the ball. This causes him to not always win contested catches. I think a move to the slot to use his agility will help him overcome this. Because of not playing a lot until his senior year, he will fall to the 3rd round.
