Round 4 – Dax Raymond – Tight End – Utah State

I believe the Cowboys like what both Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz did late in the season, but it looks like both Rico Gathers and Geoff Swaim could be gone. This leaves two tight ends and the need for a little more at the position. Raymond would be a really solid pickup in the fourth round in a deep tight end class.

Raymond is not a complete tight end in that his blocking needs a lot of work. However, as a weapon down the seams and over the middle he is one of the better ones in this class. He isn’t overly fast, he isn’t super shifty, but he is smooth in his routes, knows how to create separation, and runs clean routes. He will be a receiving threat early in his career, but should not be asked to block a ton.

I like Raymond as another weapon and is a mismatch against most linebackers. He needs some work but nothing about him makes me think he can’t get there. Matching him up with Blake Jarwin in the passing game would benefit the Cowboys in the red zone and mid to short down and distance. Until he can improve his blocking he isn’t an every down tight end, however.
