Round 5 – Michael Jackson – Cornerback – Miami

I think Amy Trask said it best when she said, “You can’t have enough solid corners on a team.” The Cowboys need some depth at cornerback at Jackson is a solid pickup in the fifth round. He has the ability to develop into a starter and could be a quality starter with a little work. He should be able to compete for the fourth and maybe third corner on the team fairly quickly.

Jackson is a press-man style corner and should be kept as such until he develops a little. He is physical at the line and uses the sidelines well. He can play with his back to the ball and utilizes his arm span to high point balls and contest passes. His best trait is ball skills and has shown a knack for making interceptions.

I would be wary of asking Jackson to play outside early in his career. His top end and long speed is not quite elite and doesn’t shed blocks in the run game. Asking him to play the slot would be his best option right now. He can overpower most slot receivers and possible some tight ends, but his change of direction could be an issue in zone coverage. A solid pickup in the fifth and could be a stellar slot corner.
