Devin White, LSU, Linebacker

This draft will hopefully be remembered as the draft of “Linebackers Devin.” On film they are fantastic, well-rounded linebackers and the combine only raised the hype of both of them. Here are Devin White’s numbers from Sunday:

40 yard dash: 4.42 seconds

Vertical Jump: 39.5 inches

Broad Jump: 9’10”

3 Cone Drill: 7.07 seconds

20 yard shuttle: 4.17 seconds

Truly fantastic numbers across the board. In an age where “passing rules” and linebackers need to cover more, White clearly has the athletic ability to do just that. He proved he could do that at the college level and that should translate to the next level nicely.

His numbers at the combine especially in the speed and agility department should give him a boost in value. His film shows he was the best linebacker coming out of college and his showing at the combine proved he was the most athletic linebacker at the combine.

White is as good a prospect as there is in this draft and his combine showing locked himself in the Top 15.

Devin Bush, Michigan, Linebacker

The second person in the “Linebackers Devin” also had a fantastic combine. Here were his numbers:

40 yard dash: 4.43 seconds

Vertical Jump: 40.5 inches

Broad Jump: 10’4″

3 Cone Drill: 6.93 seconds

20 yard shuttle: 4.23 seconds

Compared to White, he was a millisecond slower on the 40, jumped an extra inch on the vertical, jumped 6 inches farther on the broad, ran 0.14 faster on the 3 cone, and 0.06 seconds slower on the 20 yard shuttle.  The differences don’t prove one linebacker is more athletic than the other; in all they just proved both linebackers can play inside or outside for years to come.

Bush is the smaller of the two “Devin’s.” Even though he isn’t that much smaller in height and weight, it was probably more important he tested well compared to White. Fortunately, he did so he should be a first round lock.

Bush will be a good fit for a team in need of a rangy linebacker who can do a variety of tasks.
