Montez Sweat, Mississippi State, EDGE

Montez Sweat was definitely going to end up on this article. His 40 yard time was unprecedented and the rest of his numbers were no joke. He was the talk of the Combine on Sunday and rocketing up draft boards as we speak. Here are some of his numbers:

40 yard dash: 4.42 seconds

Vertical Jump: 36.0 inches

Broad Jump: 10’5″

3 Cone Drill: 7.0 seconds

20 yard shuttle: 4.29 seconds

Sweat has the athletic tools to be a stud pass rusher in the NFL. However, he didn’t always play like that at Mississippi State. In fact, in my Senior Bowl article, I had Dalton Risner as a winner because he single-handedly won his match up against Sweat when they faced each other.

Sweat is going to have to take the time to develop his technique in order to find consistent success in the NFL, but that won’t stop a team from drafting him in the first round, or at the latest, early second round. He’s insanely fast, he is extremely agile and he possesses good burst. All those are important for edge rushers where Sweat lines up nicely.

Sweat’s combine definitely helped him secure some more money from the NFL. Let’s hope he can produce for the money he gets paid.
