Brian Burns, Florida State, EDGE

After Nick Bosa, the verdict is still out on who the next best edge defender is in this draft. Brian Burns definitely made his case today at the combine. Here were his numbers:

40 yard dash: 4.53 seconds

Vertical Jump: 36.0 inches

Broad Jump: 10’9″

3 Cone Drill: 7.01 seconds

Burns is lean at 6’5″ and 249 lbs but he moves very quickly and is physical at the point of attack. On a day where Josh Allen showed he was a good athlete and Jachai Polite screwed himself over, Burns capitalized on his opportunity to show his athleticism.

Burns ran the 3rd fastest 40 yard dash and the 5th fastest 3 cone drill. He proved he was agile and that the weight he gained in preparation for the combine didn’t deter him from producing the best results at the Combine. (Same couldn’t be said for Polite)

Burns’ production and technique already made him a first round lock, but his combine should push him up the boards into the Top 15 easily. Burns should’ve impressed scouts today on a day where everyone was running as if they were on fire.

Tomorrow the defensive backs will be showcasing their athleticism. Who will standout from the pack? Who may interest the Cowboys? I suppose we’ll all know this time tomorrow.
