The Cowboys will draft Juan Thornhill in the Second Round…

Notice how I said “will” draft Thornhill. This means the Cowboys will do whatever they can to pursue Thornhill on Day 2. Especially with the way Thronhill performed at the combine, I’m almost certain they’d have to trade up into the first 10 picks of the second round in order to select the Virginia.

Once again, this is a “hot take” coming off of what we’ve heard from the combine. I expect this to be wrong come late April and quite frankly that’s okay. I would rather see the Cowboys pick another useful player at 58 instead of having to lose another pick to pick up the Virginia Safety. But boy would that be a splash!

These are some players the Cowboys interviewed while in Indy according to EU Mavs:

This is a solid list of prospects. The most intriguing one on this list is Hockensen because the possibility of the Cowboys having a chance at him is almost non-existent. But a man can dream right? The next big name on this list is Juan Thornhill. (Okay maybe it’s Trayveon but I’m saying based on draft value)

We’re also being told by the great Calvin Watkins that the Cowboys aren’t looking to pursue Earl Thomas or Landon Collins because their price tag is too high for the Cowboys interest. This seems like the exact opposite of what Jerry said at the UFC press conference but I did mention it as a possibility.

So this brings us back to the draft. Thornhill has fantastic film and he had himself a fantastic day in Indianapolis. If the Cowboys feel they need an upgrade at the safety position Thornhill should be that guy. He can play Strong Safety and is still extremely rangy in coverage. He had 6 interceptions in his final season with the Cavaliers.

As stated before, I don’t see this move happening, but one can dream. Having Thornhill on defense would be a fantastic addition to a young defense who made noise in the NFL last season. This is a take I’m sure Cowboys fans would love to see take place.
