Dallas Cowboys Draft: 10 Running Back Prospects To Know
Damien Harris, Alabama
What’s Good: Pass Protection, Catching, Big Play Ability
What Ain’t Good: Balance, Burst
Harris was the most productive running back at Alabama in their committee approach. According to Sports Reference, he boasted two 1000 yard seasons and just under 900 yards this season. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry this season and over 7 yards per carry his last two years. His productivity would suggest he’s the best running back in this class…
But he has some short comings in his game that makes his teammate, Josh Jacobs, a better prospect. Harris is a good between-the-tackles running back. He has good vision and enough speed to make plays consistently.
However, he lacks the burst to beat linebackers to the outside and he goes down really easily. He makes big plays but many are a result of him running between the tackles or he catches a screen and using his vision will scamper for a decent gain.
Can he be a Cowboy?:
No. Harris is a starting running back in this league, or if he isn’t a starter, he would be used as a complementary piece intended as a ground and pound type running back. He doesn’t provide anything different for the Cowboys and he isn’t as good as Zeke in the things he does well.
In addition, the Cowboys would have to use a higher pick to draft Harris. He’s more productive and has a higher ceiling than other running backs in this class. The Cowboys should only invest in a running back on Day 3 and Harris will be long gone from the big board.
