Round 4 – Montre Hartage – Cornerback – Northwestern

This is where the draft gets difficult. There is a stack up of wide receivers and running backs, but outside of Miles Boykin, there isn’t really a wow factor at wide receiver available right now. I went with a cornerback due to the Cowboys bringing in three so far, so they must know they need to add bodies there. Like Thornhill earlier, Hartage offers one thing the Cowboys need, ball skills.

Hartage was asked to do a lot of man coverage and while once in a while he can get beat, he seems to win the battle more often than not. He plays the ball really well and  Either way his ball skills and ability to press at the line are two qualities he does very well. He only had 2 interceptions in 2018, but my best guess is teams didn’t throw his way as much, so he didn’t have a lot of balls thrown toward his side.

What I don’t like about Hartage is what just about everyone I read said, he needs to tackle better. He is more of a containment guy until he gets help and shouldn’t be asked to be the guy to stop the ball. He is willing to make a tackle, just isn’t good with technique at all at this point. Putting him in the slot early in his career will help show his strengths in coverage and allow him time to work on his tackling.

Other names: Miles Boykin, Myles Gaskin, Gary Johnson
