Round 5 – Penny Hart – Wide Receiver – Georgia State

I know the popular theory is the Cowboys will grab a wide receiver early, however, I don’t think that is a necessity. Hart has been a name floating around and while some people have him as late a sixth round pick, I think unless the Cowboys make some trades, they may take Hart a little early, but that doesn’t mean he is a reach.

Hart is one of those small, shifty, quick slot receiver types that seem to be all the rage. He has really good speed and his 40 time should fall between a 4.38 and a 4.48. He shined at the Senior Bowl and for those who love Isabella, Hart may prove to be better over time. He runs quick routes and has good feet. He creates strong separation and will work to the outside really well. The best part is not only is he a perfect slot receiver, but he will instantly be a plus in the return game.

Where Hart will have problems starts with his size. He will sometimes fight himself over the middle if he anticipates contact and will resort to body catching. He isn’t the strongest, so scheming him to stay away from press coverage early on will help him develop. He is a willing blocker, but at 180 or so pounds he will get muscled around by linebackers easily.
