The Dallas Mavericks look to fundamentally change their roster this summer and more than a few free agents are expecting to join the mix, might this pair work?

When the Dallas Mavericks sent Harrison Barnes away for basically nothing, Donnie Nelson sent the clear message he wanted to clear cap space so he could be a major player in the upcoming free agent period.

While this familiar tune comes with an all-too-familiar eye roll to many MFFL, it’s safe to say the circumstance have changed this year, therefore expecting different results this time around isn’t necessarily naive.

Adding Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis to the team has a way of changing the climate, after all. The thinking is, players are finally going to want to play with the Mavs budding young stars.

The Dallas Mavericks have cleared nearly enough money to sign a max free agent and round out a roster (if they get a max player, work will still need to be done to position the team financially, but they are close enough to consider it financially feasible). But what if that optimal max player isn’t gettable, and the Mavs decide to go with a handful of “good” players rather than insist on one “great”.

Enter Seth Curry and Danny Green.

Seth Curry should be a familiar name to even recent Mavs fans. He was with the team from 2016 to 2018 and was an extremely productive player when he wasn’t hurt. In fact, he’s been one of the most efficient scorers in the league and it stands to reason, if he could get both consistent minutes AND stay healthy he could be a huge bargain for a team willing to take a gamble on him.

In Portland, Curry is playing roughly half the time and producing half the output he did than his last season played in Dallas. It was that 2016-17 season with the Mavs Curry produced at a career high. It’s possible Curry could consider a return to the Mavs this summer based on his previous success. Best yet, he’d come at a reasonable price.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Danny Green is a player long linked to the Dallas Mavericks. His 3-and-D style seem like a perfect match for Doncic’s Mavs and it stands to reason a stable of solid shooters is exactly what this team needs to surround their two stars with.

If the Mavs could get Dorian Finney-Smith back as well, they could have quite the flexible positionless lineup to work with.

Both Green and Curry are particularly proficient from deep, with Curry shooting 44 percent from three and Green 43.7 percent from beyond the arch. Both players are among the best in the NBA and neither would require a massive investment to sign.

If the Dallas Mavericks decided to be more budget friendly with their signings, Seth Curry and Danny Green could useful additions to this dynamic lineup.
