Trysten Hill, UCF

What’s Good?: Bend, Burst, Size, Athleticism

What Ain’t Good?: Arms, Instincts, Pad Height

Hill is the classic player who has the athleticism, but because of coaching or ego hasn’t developed into a stud. He has the initial burst that other players would die for and he has the size to make him a constant threat at 3 technique.

Yet, also you saw from Hill was him just turning around. Hill just so looks so out of place at the point of attack that whenever an offensive linemen grabs a hold of him he gets thrown in the spin cycle or he’ll get stood up.

Hill has some impressive bend. At 6’3″ and 308 pounds, his flexibility is impressive. (According to NFL.com) Of course it’d be nice he picked up more tackles as a result but the flexibility will be something scouts find intriguing about Hill as a prospect. Through in his burst and you’d think he was dominating the American Conference.

Several issues persist, one being his pad height. He’s a big guy with good bend so he can become really effective he lowers his pad height. Most of the time he can’t seem to get any leverage standing up straight. In the few instances he got lower than the lineman, he bull rushed his opponent successfully. The lineman just flew back and Hill could pick up his sack or tackle for loss.

Also, it feels like Hill moves around simply to move around. When he moves in a certain direction he doesn’t pay attention to where the ball. It’s frustrating because his head will be looking down as the ball carrier travels past him in the hole right next to the one he closed. If he looked up, Hill could have added more tackles to the stat sheet.

Hill has the potential to be a starter in this league and would fit in with the Cowboys because he has the ability to rush to different spots. The Cowboys would have to develop him into a productive player but it seems he had a track record of being a nuisance to coaches. If the team that drafts him can work with his attitude and personality, that team could have themselves a sleeper.

Hill was my last player for this article. With roughly 4 more weeks until the draft I will have a “scouting report” out for wide receivers, cornerbacks, and offensive tackle. Feel free to drop a comment below on who you’d like to see from any of these groups in the reports.
